Grower Manager
📍 Location: East Yorkshire (commutable from York, Hull, Goole, Selby, Beverley, Market Weighton, Holme-Upon-Spalding-Moor)
💰 Salary: Up to £45,000 DOE + Benefits
📅 Work Pattern: 5 days per week (including weekends on a rota basis)
🛫 Flexibility: Required for audits, customer visits, and peak seasons
Are you an experienced Grower Manager looking for an exciting opportunity in fresh produce and horticulture? Our client is seeking a passionate and hands-on leader to oversee crop production, ensuring efficiency, quality, and food safety while leading a dedicated team. Working closely with the Works Manager, Growing Consultant, and Operations Director, you'll play a key role in horticultural operations, ensuring crops are grown to the highest standards.
Key Responsibilities:
✔ Crop Production & Planning
- Manage and oversee the growing process to meet production targets.
- Implement climate control and fertigation strategies to optimise yields.
- Conduct crop walks, scouting for pests and diseases, and implement disease control measures.
- Work closely with the Operations team to ensure growing houses are filled, transferred, and emptied efficiently.
✔ Leadership & Team Development
- Train and mentor the growing team on disease control, crop husbandry, and best practices.
- Supervise and motivate staff to achieve growing KPIs.
- Promote and enforce health & safety and food hygiene standards on-site.
✔ Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
- Attend daily farm walks and weekly planning meetings with key stakeholders.
- Report on KPI figures and implement improvements where necessary.
- Support the harvesting team during peak seasons.
- Enforce GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) and ensure compliance with food safety and industry regulations.
What You'll Need:
✅ Essential:
- Experience in growing, horticulture, or fresh produce farming.
- Background in agriculture or a related field (Degree in Agriculture or Horticulture preferred).
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- IT proficiency, including MS Office (Excel, Outlook, Word).
- Ability to meet tight deadlines and remain calm under pressure.
✅ Desirable:
- Food hygiene & HACCP qualification.
- Experience in a chilled, fast-paced FMCG environment.
- Knowledge of BRC standards and retailer audit protocols.
- A sound understanding of Health & Safety legislation.
